Sabre Shades

Summer is here, and you need sunglasses. SabreVision is here to help.

SaberVision describes their sunglasses as "Classic 50's lines [meets] an 80's mood". This 80's feel is especially evident in "The Crue" and "The Dude" models (pictured below). We're not sure if they block UV rays, but who cares when you look this good?

You can purchase Sabre Shades online at CaliRoots.com. If you'd like to know more about SabreVision, check out their website.

The Imaginary Foundation

The Imaginary Foundation describes themselves as "a think tank from Switzerland that does experimental research on new ways of thinking and the power of the imagination". Considering the fact that the Imaginary Foundation is a streetwear company, this may seem a bit ambitious. However, when you see their collection, you'll be a believer.

Tees and hoodies from The Imaginary Foundation feature beautiful artwork and thought provoking designs. Here are a few of our favorites:

"Blueprint" Hoodie

"See Light" Tee

"Express Yourself" Tee

"Fontology" Tee

The Imaginary Foundation recently released new designs, view the entire collection here. If you'd rather check their gear out in person, check the store locater.

Etnies Plus

Despite being introduced in 2002, the Etnies Plus shoe collection is still relatively obscure. Etnies Plus was originally created as a test bed for new colorways, fabrics, and shoemaking technology. The R&D that Etnies put into it’s Plus line eventually trickles down to their mass-produced shoe lines.

According to the Etnies Plus website, “the etnies plus collection is a truly one-of-a-kind, numbered, limited-edition shoe series.” These hand-made shoes speak for themselves:

Men's Rocksteady Hi by Jon Perello

Women's Plover

Women's Rockwell

You can purchase the Etnies Plus collection online from CaliRoots, or at a variety of brick-and-mortar stores (for a list, click here).

Red Monkey Designs

Red Monkey Designs may not be a household name, but they’ve come a long way since they started in an L.A. garage over 10 years ago. Red Monkey specializes in hand-crafted leather accessories such as belts, watches, guitars straps, cuffs, vests, and more. According to their website, Red Monkey products are inspired by “...the rugged, lived-in character of vintage western wear and classic American motorcycle leathers”.

Each one of Red Monkey’s products are hand made as well as made to order. Their products are available in a multitude of colors and finishes, if you’re willing to play the price.

Red Monkey gear is the real deal. All of their products exude a gritty “rock and roll” type feel. In fact, famous rockers such as Kerry King (of Slayer), Zakk Wilde (Black Label Society), and KISS. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate some Red Monkey products into your urban wardrobe. Red Monkey has designed accessories for people such as Beck, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Sheryl Crow, U2, and more. If you’re looking to change things up and stand out from your peers, look no further than Red Monkey Designs.

You can purchase Red Monkey products direct from their website or at a growing number of retailers. Inquiries about custom products can be made here.

Greedy Genius pt. 2: Cobalt Shoe Review

One of our staff members recently got his hands on a pair of Greedy Genius kicks, here’s what he had to say:

I recently picked up a pair of Cobalt Blue Greedy Genius sneaks and although the price is a little steep, it was money well spent for a shoe collector such as myself. These shoes are gorgeous and the embroidery is flawless. The royal blue patent leather on the heel and toe gleam from the sidewalk with the baby blue front and side panels to match. The orange laces compliment the baby blue well and create an agreeable color scheme. The Genius’ have a snug fit, similar to a properly fitted Air Force 1, with ample padding throughout. As a result of their superior fit and construction, toe creases haven’t been an issue which is very refreshing.

The shoes come in a sleek black shoe box that slides open and enclosed is a drawstring bag with the Greedy Genius logo etched onto the front. The packaging and presentation is comparable to a pair of Bapes and quite frankly the look and feel of the shoes capture the same prestige. Like Genius’ logo, “Don’t be Misled”, you will definitely won’t be with a pair of these.

Greedy Genius pt. 1

I know what you’re thinking. “Great, another streetwear company who makes print hoodies and colorful shoes”. The market is over-saturated with urban clothing companies looking to make a quick buck by recycling the same designs over and over again. However, Greedy Genius isn’t another “me-too” brand. Their shoes and clothing constantly push past anything we’ve seen.

Peep the Greedy Genius Woodstock shoe which features tie-dyed patent leather and custom embroidered details. Don’t worry if the Woodstock shoe is too much for you, Greedy Genius also produces their shoes in less intense colorways, like the blue and red jump off pictured below.

It doesn’t stop with shoes. Greedy Genius also designs tees, hoodies, and denim. Check out their collabo with YOROPIKO (pictured below). At $500, this Limited Edition denim is no joke, so you’d better start saving your lunch money. The bottom line is that Greedy Genius is simply killing it, end of story.

If you’re looking to cop some Greedy Genius, you can use the store locator on the Greedy Genius website. Don’t be suprised if you have a hard time getting your hands on their gear, many of their items are limited to less than 500 copies.

Stay tuned for next week's post when one of our staff members will be reviewing the Greedy Genius Cobalt sneaks!

Massive Revolution Clothing

In late 2004 Devon Griffith created the urban fashion brand Massive Revolution. Griffith was no light weight as far as fashion was concerned and had previously worked with Ralph Lauren, Polo, Chaps, and Perry Ellis brands. When Griffith created Massive Revolution he didn’t want it to be another poser knocking off Japanese urban wear, or mirror the LRG (Lifted Research Group) look. Griffith describes Massive Revolution gear as “fun, clever, passionate, real and detailed”.

Massive Revolution Bomb Hoody

We recently received our Massive Revolution’s spring 2007 collection at Urban Style Direct, and it looks sharp. They’re not re-inventing urban fashion, but they are definitely raising the bar, especially with pieces like the Bomb Hoody and the matching Neo Dada Denim.

Massive Revolution Neo Dada Denim

Massive Revolution is set to continue its upward trend and has already been featured on the cover of DNR Fashion News, a leading mens fashion publication. As you browse the Massive Revolution collection we have on Urban Style Direct (we got their hottest pieces) you'll notice that their spring lines head in one of two directions. Several pieces have a 'medieval' themed graphics on them like swords and coats of arms and then there are other pieces that feature bright colors and super busy graphics, like the Bomb Hoody. Start a Fashion Revolution in your wardrobe and get up on Massive Revolution.

Prohibit NYC

You’ve seen print hoodies, and you’ve seen bright colors, but you’ve never seen anything like Prohibit NYC's hoodies and fits. Prohibit Clothing was established in 2001 by Maki Noguchi. He wanted to fuse Tokyo’s unique style with the flavor of New York’s Downtown Subculture.

Prohibit NYC Fits

Prohibit NYC has collaborated with the likes of heavy hitters like LRG and Mos Def to create elaborate denim, hoodies, and hats. Prohibit’s collaboration with LRG created the “Dream Jeans”, which were shipped in a traditional Japanese “bento box”. Don’t be suprised if you’ve never seen them - the limited release consisted of only 500 pairs. Prohibit’s attention to detail is king - their garments possess the same handmade feel that you’re used to from companies like LRG, Live Mechanics, and Five Pointz.

You can view Prohibit's entire collection on their website.

Schmack Clothing

Urban Style Direct is proud to announce that we will be carrying items from Schmack Clothing. Schmack features crazy prints, comic-book inspired graphics, and bright colors. Their clothing is definitely different - don't expect the same recycled designs that so many other brands are using! Rumor has it they were started in by two friends in Virginia with only tee shirt designs. Within 6 months they got themselves into all kinds of stores - surf n’ skate shops, boutiques, and “alternative rock n' roll stores”. Within 8 months they were picked up in Japan.

They do sell their gear directly from their website - unfortunately a bunch of their hottest gear is sold out.

With all the print tees and hoodies out there Schmack does a good job staying above the clutter. Checkout the Schmack Galaxy Hoody. Beam me up Scotty! We also got our hands on some of their denim - check the Schmack Ka Neival Jean. The denim looks sharp and features star embroidery on the fifth and back pockets.

LRG - Spring 2007

Unlike their website, LRG's gear is always hot and up to date. This urban fashion leader continues to impress and their spring 2007 collection is no exception. LRG has done it again with a strong showing in the track jacket department and denim field.

Every season LRG throws a wild item or 2 into their release and this spring its the LRG Antigua Woven Polo. It comes in numerous colors and is very busy.

As always expect full LRG collections at Urban Style Direct like the Infantree Collection that consists of a fit, tee, short and zip up hoody. However, be warned this collection is not for the faint - it is a print collection featuring baby blue.

One area where they did miss their mark was on this Spring Dangerfield Tee. The purple doesn’t look that great and it doesn’t help that it has an interested text plastered across the text in some "less than appealing" text.

Expect Urban Style Direct to be getting the LRG summer shipment in the next 4 to 6 weeks, so check back then OR just sign up for the email newsletter which will definitely feature the new LRG when it arrives.
